    Chano has been putting up tents for Hughes’ customers for just over 20 years.

    He is a true tent master and can do the work of 5 men. He lives in Charleston with his wife Gloria.

    Ariel is a second-generation Hughes employee who has been with us for many years, helping manage our warehouse operations with and for his father Chano.

    In addition to being a very hard worker, Ariel is also a great organizer and a very valuable member of our team.

A Little History…..

The Hughes family of businesses cultivated deep roots in the Lowcountry for three generations, beginning with Hughes Lumber and True Value Store located in downtown Charleston founded in 1888!

In 1983, Hughes Equipment Rental was started. In 1993, John Burn, the original owner, added tents, tables, and chairs to the rental business portfolio. He also changed the name to Hughes Equipment and Party Rental and relocated to Mt. Pleasant.

In 2022, Mason Cardwell, Orlando, FL native and Mt. Pleasant resident, acquired the party rental portion of the business from the Wilson family. He rebranded the 25-year-old company as Hughes Event Rentals, specializing in tents, tables, linens, chairs, and specialty items. He retained the long tenured and experienced staff and has upgraded the rental inventory through capital investment into the business. “We are not the largest event rental company in the Charleston area, but we focus very diligently on being the most reliable one.”
